if the year 6987 is written historically, but in modern US times is translated to 1479, how do i calculate it?

Question: i know that 6987 is really 1479 from a text book, but how do i calculate this out? i want to know because i have a coin with the year 3968 on it, and i never understood it until now... now it seems like it might be hella old! it has some arabic writing on it... i think. i just need the formula so i can figure out hte date.

Answer: If the year 6987 on the coin is equivalent to the year 1479 on the modern calendar, then the coin's calendar is 6987 - 1479 = 5508 years ahead of ours. So, if you have a coin from the year 3968 in the ancient calendar, it would be from the year 3968 - 5508 = -1540 or 1540 BCE in our modern calendar. However, your information is almost certainly in error, because the earliest known coins are from around the year 600 BCE. I doubt you have a coin made almost 1000 years before the earliest known example.
