does herpes type 2 have more outbreaks in the mouth than type 1?

Question:

Answer: No. Herpes type 1 causes about 95% of oral herpes, and type 2 the other 5%. On the mouth herpes type 1 is in its 'site of preference' and therefore causes more outbreaks. Type 2 hardly ever causes outbreaks when it is on the mouth - after the primary outrbeak there may never be another. It is also much much less infectious on the mouth than type 1, which is infectious about 18% of the time. On the genitals, type 2 is the dominant virus. That causes on average about 6 outbreaks a year, while type 1 genitally causes about 1 outbreak every 2 years. 50% of people with genital type 1 never get a second outbreak. There are always exceptions though - I have genital type 1 and get about 6-8 outbreaks a year.
